For first-time car owners, like recent college grads, your friends at Grieger’s Motors, your Michigan City Jeep dealer, want to give you a few tips to help you keep your car running safely and efficiently.

Don’t ignore the owner’s manual

Most of us don’t bother to read the owner’s manual unless we’re in a jam. That’s a mistake. The manual contains valuable information on things like specific oil or fluids to use and what maintenance schedule to follow. If you bought used, and the car doesn’t have a manual, you can probably find one online.

Heed the warning signs

Take note of any unusual noises, smells or fluid leaks. Also, performance changes like soft, mushy brakes or steering problems. Catching problems early can often prevent paying huge repair bills because you ignored the early warning signs.

Watch the tire pressure

Under-inflated tires wear faster, reduce gas mileage and make handling of your vehicle more difficult. Keep an air gauge in your glove box and check tire pressure at least once a month.

Wash and wax regularly

Regular washing and waxing help protect and preserve a car’s paint from bug splatter, bird droppings, corrosive salt and general road grime.

Follow the maintenance schedule

Follow the owner’s manual instructions for regular oil changes and other basic maintenance to prolong the life of your vehicle.

These basic tips from your Michigan City Jeep dealer, Grieger’s Motors, should keep your vehicle humming for years to come.
