At Grieger Motors, your Michigan City Jeep dealer, we know it’s always a good idea to know the warning signs that tell you your brakes are not working properly, and here are four sounds and sensations indicating it’s time to bring your vehicle to Griegers for brake service.

Odd Noises

Noises like screeching, grinding, squealing and rubbing indicate your brake pads/shoes are worn down and grinding on your brake rotor or drum. This situation reduces your braking ability and damages the braking system each time you press the brake pedal.

Pulling Left or Right

If your vehicle pulls to one side or the other when you apply the brakes, this could mean your brakes are wearing more on one side than the other.

Spongy Brake Pedal

A soft, spongy feel in the brake pedal indicates a possible problem in the hydraulic system. It could be an air leak in the brake hose or a brake fluid leak. A telltale sign of a fluid leak is a small puddle of fluid collecting under your car. Brake fluid looks similar to fresh motor oil but is less slimy.

Vibration

A vibrating or pulsating brake pedal can indicate warped brake rotors. You feel the vibration because the brake pads are not able to grab the rotor surface evenly.

If you encounter any of these warning signs, bring your vehicle to Grieger Michigan City Jeep immediately and let our expert mechanics correct the issue for you.
