Made of the most unlikely of partners, this grassroots community came together as a means of helping make Valpo a special place to live! For nearly 15 years, the Valparaiso chefs have partnered with businesses like Grieger’s Motors and Perma-Green to create events, fundraisers, and happiness to local families. Its how Valpo became an award-winning city. Unfortunately, even great communities like Valpo have the type of experiences nobody wants to talk about…  victims of domestic violence.

The Charities that need the most help are the ones that have the Hardest Time Raising Funds.

Perhaps the greatest challenge is getting people to talk about it. Everyone seems to want to sweep the need to help victims of domestic violence under the rug. Let’s face it, there are economic benefits in painting the picture that a town is perfect. A fundraiser for victims of domestic violence isn’t good for business.

Then there is the matter of wanting a fundraiser to succeed. People that want to feel good about raising large sums of money know it is not easy raising funds for victims of domestic violence. This often ends with embarrassment when nobody wants to talk about it, let alone get involved and give.

Even the marketing of a fundraiser for women and children experiencing domestic abuse has challenges, especially at Christmas time.

For 2022, we have accepted the challenge to help victims of domestic violence and are turning once again to innovative fundraising ideas. But this year, we are sharing some cool ideas with the hope of enlisting the entire community.”

Grieger’s Motors puts Drive into Helping Abused Families

Grieger’s Motor Sales has always been there to support local events and charities. Since the 1960s, the Ram and Jeep Dealership has believed in paying forward by backing local initiatives, but at the core of this Northwest Indiana dealership are good, decent people that believe in listening and finding solutions. When Grieger’s Motors GM Brad Hallal first read the Perma-Green blog, he knew this challenge would need more than support. It would need activism and leadership.

Hallal was inspired by the creative ideas suggested in the PG blog. While the blog offered numerous ideas for people in the community to support victims of abuse, it was the intent of the article to select one idea. Hallal picked several. He especially liked the employee-match incentive.

As a family-owned dealership with a staff that lives in the community, Hallal knew he could count on his team to care. But he didn’t pass the buck, he took the bull by the horns!

Advocacy and Promotion

Grieger’s Motors is using its social media and email blasts to help bring awareness and fundraising to the Caring Place. While raising money for victims of domestic violence is critical, one of the biggest obstacles to helping The Caring Place is silence. Hallal believes the best solutions start with dialog and listening.

Hallal also volunteered to promote the fundraiser through video production and the creation of this blog.
